I am currently a track apprentice and Monday to friday we learn in the classroom about the railway and all different aspects of the job which will be doing in the future. We get to meet new people and learn interesting facts. Saturday mornings we are learning towards are ILM Level 2 qualification in team leading which is enjoyable.
Yes i have learned alot on the apprenticeship. I will gain a variety of well recognized qualifications over the apprenticeship as well as life experience. Further down the line there is opportunities to gain extra qualifications to enhance my skills which is good. We learn to live away from home for 9 months and are put in new situations all the time which give us life experience.
I love the programme! It is a great opportunity to allow me to develop a long and hopefully successful career. The opportunities are there and by putting in the effort my employer will help me to achieve my goals. I enjoy the experience and being able to learn on the job.
The company thinks highly of its employees and we are treated with respect and our views are taken into account when making decisions which makes you feel like a valid member of the team. When we go the extra mile to learn and push ourselves we are recognized and praised to keep on doing well which makes you feel like you are doing well. We are the future of the company and we are treated well.
Yes the programme is well structured. We was given a timetable for our class at the start of the year which has been kept to other than minor changes. We have resources and facilities available for use to use, this is like books, computers and desks which are very useful for or studies. There is support available everyday if needed and if someone does not know the answer they will go out of their way to find someone for you who does.
Our training provided gives support everyday at work if required. We have been introduced to people who have different roles so that we know where to go for any problem and find relevant help. Our training provided wants us to do well and they will try and motivate us to do as well as we possibly can which is good.
Our employer has a dedicated room on site where we can speak to people at anytime throughout the working day. Our manager is always around and makes time to ask how we are getting on and if there are any problems. It is very convenient to be able to talk to people at anytime and feel like you can get the answer easily.
Our salary is good for an apprentice considering that in the first 9 months of the apprenticeship all of our food and accommodation is paid for. We also do not have to pay for our travel to and from work as a bus is provided. The money we receive is enough to allow us to enjoy our social time after work and at the weekends.
We work in gosport and live in fareham so the location is good as there is alot to do around the area which i like. There is a town centre near by which can be accessed by a short walk. Also there is a tranlink which can take you to a shopping centre. The company has guest speakers in to allow us to understand what opportunities are around us. There is also a gym and swimming pool on site which we can use in out freetime. Local sports teams have allowed us to play for them if we want to which is very good. Network Rail also has a apprentice football team which you can play in or go along to support the players in matches.
Yes
There is alot of opportunities available and it is a great apprenticeship. The qualifications you gain are industry recognized which shows they are good. If you put the work in you are able to work your way up and you will be given all the support needed to do so.
The first thing to do is to do some research and decided if this is what you would like to do. The application process involves some online aptitude tests. There are so many opportunities available within the company which you do not know about until you are in it and the fist step is to apply. When you go to your asessment centre you have your final interview on the same day which i was not aware of so came empty handed so if i knew this i would have taken something practical along to stand out like a small project or hobby you have worked on which you can talk about.
