Currently work in Audit as an audit semi-senior. Visit numerous clients within different sectors, mainly motor delearships and audit their financial statements to ensure they are materially correct, direct involvement with financial controllers / financial directors on a daily basis. Responable for sections assigned, i.e trade creditors / stock and assisting to coach junior members on the audit team. Involved in completion and planning side of accounts also.
Qualified AAT and part qualified ACA Lots of internal courses - leadership skills, systems training, professional skills when dealing with a client etc.
I really enjoy working at BDO. Everyone is very friendly and peer groups are around the same age group. For example your intake will be approx made up of around 8 people around the same age as yourself. Everyone is in the same position, i.e learning exams and therefore very helpful to help.
Appreciation from managers is very good - BDO instant awards are given to individuals who exceed well - normally consistent of vouchers to spend.
Very well structured. College is organised a year in advance so you will always know when your exams will be etc. Planning meetings are held before jobs out on site, whereby you will be instructed exactly what work you will be asked to perform etc.
BPP tutors are always avaliable to help even out of college hours - personal telephone number and emails are given. BPP online learning enviorment is very good - provides visual learning classroom for all subject areas therefore you can watch these whenever you want - exactly the same as being taught in a classroom.
Line managers and training managers are always available to help and provide support if you ever have any issues / concern. Managers whilst out on site at a client are also very helpful and are very good at coaching through work.
Good - can afford to save for a house and social events.
BDO are very social - always lots of events taking place outside of the work environment i.e horse racing, SCASS balls, go karting etc. These are nominally subisidised and therefore cost very little.
Yes
Very good firm to work for, very friendly people and helpful supportive along your studies. The training is very good and you learn very useful information each day. Always a good chance to put exam skills into practice which helps understanding of exam knowledge.
Be prepared to ask sensible questions to partners and managers during the interview process. Never be too confident just be honest. Understand the job role - what does auditing involve. Understand that the job involves travelling quite a bit.
