I am an apprentice fabricator which means I carry out a variety of different skills such as steelwork or outfitting work where I either do things such as fit and erect bulkheads or make and fit seats.
I have learned many new skills such as welding and general steelwork skills and I have also improved my communication and team work skills.
I enjoy my programme as it provides a way of earning while im learning. I also have a lot of variety in my day to day life instead of doing the same thing day in and day out.
I feel valued as we are often told we are the future of the company.
The programme is well organised as we get to do a year of college work to learn the very basics before coming in to work full time where we can then put these skills in to practice and advance them.
We receive good support as we can contact our training officer whenever we have an issue and they will sort it for us as best they can. We also have 12 weekly reviews to see how work is going.
The manager also takes a lot to do with the apprentices and likes to know how we are getting on or if we have any issues.
My salary is not bad at the moment and increases annually.
