I work in Grant Thornton's Forensic and Investigation Services. This involves working on projects such as financial disputes and financial investigations, and this often involves following the flow of money along with providing support for reports. I also help with strategy and marketing for one of our service lines and also help to organise football matches for networking purposes.
I have been able to develop my people skills as I've needed to convey my ideas to colleagues. Also, I have been to networking events with clients which has aided this further. In addition, I have learnt new skills on excel, as this is a common programme used for work carried out and I had only had limited experience of this beforehand. I have also been able to work both in a team and independently which has helped develop good working habits.
I have really enjoyed my programme so far. I have met lots of different people with excellent experiences to share. I have also been given adequate responsibilities which has helped with my career development. The exam side of things has also been well thought out in terms of timing.
I have been given lots of opportunities which has made me feel valued. I have also received internal recognition and positive feedback on my interim appraisal. In addition, I've also had positive verbal feedback from colleagues.
The induction process at Grant Thornton was really benficial as we were able to learn more about the firm and we also received induction accounting training. I also received a 'buddy' who was able to help me settle in to the firm and answer any questions that I had. The exam side has been well thought out in terms of timing.
My experience with my training provider has been positive. The tutors have been knowledgeable and contactable in out of college hours. The provider's website also has lots of material to help revision.
Over the first six months I have had monthly catch ups with my people manager to help ensure everything has been running smoothly. Other colleagues have also been supportive with studies etc and have offered advice when required. The firm also has an intranet where information regarding support can be found.
I am pleased with my salary as I'm able to cover my costs as it is above the national living wage. In addition, there are extensive benefit schemes that can be opted into which has enabled me to take advantage of a few extra perks.
There have been lots of sports networking opportunities at Grant Thornton which have enabled me to continue playing the sports which I was playing before work. There are also company sports club available and my team have regular social activities which have been great
Yes
I would recommend Grant Thornton as they're a welcoming firm who have friendly and knowledgeable people. There is also a big focus on the well being of their employees and in addition we are striving for a one firm approach where everyone can share their ideas.
I would encourage an individual to just be themselves as Grant Thornton are looking for individuals with a good personality and those who show integrity. With the interview and application it's good to try to draw from lots of different experiences and on the assessment day I would encourage individuals to show initiative and just give it their best shot.
