On my tipycal day at work, I get the bus to HMS sultan at 8am and then I go and do classroom based learning until 4pm the topics I study are maths, materials, permanent way, surveying, mechanical systems, mechanical principles, and health and safety. We have a break at 10:15am and go for food at 12:15.
With the Ilm programme I have become more confident when speaking to people. Also living away from home has taught me a lot like not relying on my parents. I would say I have grown up a lot while down at HMS collingwood. Also I have not got a good understanding knowledge of the topics I have learnt.
I enjoy working as a team with my class to overcome tasks, for example when we went at work on a heratige railway as a team. I also enjoy all of the out of work activities that have been set up for us, ranging from football to quiz nights.
Network rail have made all of the apprentices feel welcome on arrival and have told us about all the opportunities that are open to us. I feel like network rail listen to us and answer all of our questions.
The course is very structured time tables are stuck up on the walls so we know where our lessons are. The buses have never been late. If on the odd chance food is not available in the normal eating area, network rail find a solution straight away and let's all the apprentices know. Also I have never had any problems with travel arrangements
The instructors are always there when you need to ask questions. If they don't know an answer straight away they will go and find it out for you. In lesson the instructors always go the extra mile to make sure the whole class understands it before we start assessed tasks
Network rail always answer work related questions involving our depots. Also they was very informative when I had questions regarding pay and tax codes. I can tell network rail want us to do well want support us with work related and non work related problems
I think because we stay in an accommodation And have 3 meals at day, the salary does fit my costs. I have been able to save up for a car this year and still go out and do activitys in fareham with my friends
There are lots of activities after work like football. Also the is the gym which I use 5 out the 7 days a week. Also network rail staff give me a few numbers at the start of the year for me to start my driving lessons
Yes
Because it is a great career which has a good job security. Also this apprenticeship has taught me a lot so far and Ii am a lot more confident in my ability do complete tasks thanks to support of network rail.
Only apply if you are interested in the company and feel like moving away from home is the right option. when applying for the course I would look on the network rail website and see what discipline is best for you
