I'm a tax advisor. I have been on secondment to Citi for 6 months. Prior to this I was a senior on the UK compliance team and would review technical advisory work and manage and run refund projects. upon my return I will be working on business traveller work, managing the team's resources, ensuring that the client is satisfied and reviewing technical pieces of work. Additionally I am reviewing and preparing US tax returns before they are signed off and sent to the client
I have been promoted since joining in 2014. I have attended numerous training courses both technical and non technical. I have had a new level 2 conference in Amsterdam, a People Advisory conference in Birmingham and have had exam training in London and Birmingham. I have learn how to review, provide feedback and manage a team and also how to interact with clients and present work
The work that I do is really fascinating and changes and adapts based on the current market circumstances keeping me constantly interested and challenged. The culture at EY is extremely people focused. They take great care of their people and are interested and value their thoughts, progression and well being. The programme has enabled me to work with a wide range of people and a vast amount of different clients and projects giving me a great experience that I couldn't have obtain otherwise.
Appreciation from management is well know as I have often received impact awards for great pieces of work and receive bonus for great exam success. Feedback is given regularly both formally and informally to highlight any work that has been done well and constructively to help us be better.
The programme was extremely well structured. We went on a 2 week induction followed by a weeks exam training course. there has been great help from the programme team with any questions we have and also about our progression. As the years have progressed and I have helped with the programme I have noted how it has improved.
I have obtained great support towards my exams from the training providers. They have available on weekdays and weekends to answer any questions that we have and to ensure that we pass. We have also been given support internally from buddies and counsellors for any issues we may have for both training and progression
We have a lot of support internally from EY. We are assigned a buddy and counsellor upon joining who help us with settling in, as well as our progression and teams/clients that we work for. My manager has always been very supportive and helped me towards my progression. The partners have also been supportive having catch ups with me about how I can progress within the programme
Since being promoted my salary is much more linked to my living costs. However this is only due to my having to commute in to the office as opposed to living in London. Now that I have brought my home, it is becoming a struggle again as I have increased living costs and have moved further away so the travel costs are increased.
There are lots of opportunities available for social events, work conferences as well as sport clubs and other group outings. this could range from going for a drink after work, to netball clubs to going to a country club for a team day out
Yes
EY has been a great support to me since joining and has really helped me to progress. I feel that they value me as part of the team and I am not looked at any differently than my peers even though I haven't been to university
Ensure that you are aware of the process. Check out their online Youtube videos, career website and speak to people that work there for their experiences and for some advice. Be yourself. You complete an application online and will then come to the office for an assessment day whereby you will have a partner interview and complete some additional tests. The experience overall is very quick and simple.
