I enjoy work on a daily basis, I enjoy coming to work and seeing what tasks I have to do as every day is different. I work within development department so all of my work is one-off's and modifications no production work so every job is unique.
As an apprentice I believe we are very well looked after. We have lots of members of staff we can talk to raise any issues and we get lots of company benefits. We get lets of internal recognition from directors and managers who help us succeed.
Our programme for manufacturing is pretty well structured. We have internally decided that some changes may be better but they're not too bad. Overall the whole programme is organised.
SEMTA do a very good job of keeping track of our NVQ progress. We have regular meetings with our assessor and he keeps up on the lines of where we need to be setting us regular targets between meetings.
I think overall we have a lot of support from the company. The HR team work quickly to solve any problems we come across with our apprenticeship.
Personally I find living costs can be a bit of a struggle sometimes, especially in the earlier days of apprenticeship when the salary was lower. I had to move down here for the job and living on your own on an apprenticeship wage isn't ideal. There are months where I run out of money but I can't complain. Sacrifices have to be made for the long run. We also get a very nice bonus
There are occasional family days run by Mercedes locally. Unfortunately as I live away from home I go back home nearly every weekend so I'm not normally in the area when they're on.
Yes
A very good company to work for, successful Formula One team will look amazing on CV. Lots of valuable skills to be learnt in such a unique environment. Well looked after as an employee.
be confident. be yourself. Have an actual interest in Engineering and engines in general. You don't need to know everything but knowing how an engine works defiantly helps.
