My role at HPP consists of learning the ins and outs of all aspects of manufacturing; such as machine operating and setting, programming, fixture design and manual machining.
I have learnt a hug number of new skills during my apprenticeship both in and outside of the workshop, I have attended the local college to complete a HNC course which has aided me in learning formula and CAD skills. Also I have learnt different methods of manufacturing and how this affects engine performance, I've also learnt a lot of people skills and how to behave and interact around different people.
I enjoy getting up and going into work every morning, in the work place there is always a different job to do which requires learning new skills; I enjoy the company of the people I work with and all are willing to share in their knowledge and educate me as best they can.
I feel extremely valued by the company, we are often told how our input has benefited the team and what a critical role we play in completing the company missionary statement. we are often told to observe and get involved with projects as oppose to doing unrelated jobs such as taking the bins out.
The programme has been well organised since day 1, we have always known were to work and whom to report too. our objectives are mad clear to us by both the company and SEMTA on a regular basis.
The training provider provides the adequate amount of support necessary for the role, they make their intensions and requirements clear on regular visits but also do not interfere with company requirements.
The employer provides all necessary support which I feel allows me to become a good machinist and more, Team leaders and managers are willing to go the extra mile for the sake of our learning and future.
the salary of the apprenticeship is fair and even among the apprentices, we are on average paid more than some others companies but we are required to work longer hours, for this reason I feel the pay is fair.
the company has many benefits to it which motivate you to carry out the best job you can, these opportunities consist of visits from F1 drivers, visits to racing events and going out to colleges to advertise the scheme.
