Apprentice Engineer: The first year of this apprenticeship involves full time college studying L3 and PEO both mechanical and electrical. Whilst on break, taken back onto site in order to get a general feel for the way the site is run. After college has finished you will be brought back onto site full time with only 1 day a week at college. Throughout the next 3 years you will rotate round the different departments, seeing what each part of the site does and getting a feel for the different shift patterns they do. Day to day basis is different depending on where you are based.
As apprentices we are put on many training courses in order to try to expand our knowledge to the best of our ability. Throughout the apprenticeship you will have achieved Engineering level 3 and PEO, NVQ and also a HNC. Both internal and external courses are booked for the apprentices in order for their training to be up to date at all times. By the end of the apprenticeship from all the training you receive you will be quite a highly qualified engineer
I absolutely love working for Glaxos. Its a great company to work for - you can walk around site and everyone will smile and say hello. In a way sometimes you feel like a huge family all working together to achieve a goal. I always knew GSK was a great company but my expectations were exceeded when I came to work for them as there was never a daunting moment when I first started - you are never alone and someone is always around to help you where needed
I feel very valued by GlaxoSmithKline - being an apprentice some people may think we are used as spare tools, to get the tea in - however at GSK we are all considered part of the team, we are included in all the job sheets and are all a relevant part in the areas success. Internal recognition is great here, if you complete something great or work exceptionally hard, you are always rewarded with a token of gratitude whether it be a meal voucher or one for shopping the site as a whole are always giving them out to those who deserve them.
As a whole the apprenticeship programme is great - all apprenticeships here are all planned out from training, to team building to the actual rotations of work. Support is great throughout, you are never alone, there is always someone around to ask for help/advice
a Support is available 24/7 on site - there is never a time when you are alone unless you want to be and 100% sure you know what you are doing. Everyone is very happy to help you and wont question your knowledge, just be happy to share advice and knowledge. I love where I work, its a great place and there is always a good vibe in the workplace.

The salary is great, more than enough to cover living costs etc. Location is good for me as only a 5 minute drive, the college is about 15 minutes away and parking at £5 a day is all paid for by the company. Could not ask for more, along with shift premiums and bonuses the wage is a great sum
There are always opportunities to partake within the workplace whether it be team building, community exercises or transferring to a co-site for a short time there's so much to do that can help to benefit you. There is a sports and social club across the road to us who offer many different activities and events to employees throughout the year and many sports go on here (including the gym)
Yes
Its a great place to work , everyone is always around to help and everyone on site will always say hello and give you a smile. The company as a whole is brilliant and what they actually do is great, being close to something that goes out to help someone else further down the line really feels great.
Include all experiences, DofE and work experience is good. Attend the open evenings, talk to all apprentices and manager and gather as much knowledge from them as you can. Contact us to find out anything you may wish to know. Stay calm, don't put anything stupid on your application. Make sure before the interview you know a bit about the company and anything to do with the apprenticeship you may be wanting to do.
