  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I sit within PWA whereby I work with core HR data and analyse it. My main role, in my opinion, is to gain a lot of experience and knowledge within the firm and its different departmental areas. My main task for each day is to learn something new either within my own area or somewhere else. I have many interactions with numerous people as I have done a lot of work with a lot of different people which helps me in getting exposure to those in different areas and at different levels within the company.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently studying a part time degree in Business Technology as well as going through a professional qualification (Bcs). I am also open to sitting online courses on our intranet which I do so to improve my skills in areas such as MicroSoft Excel. During my induction, I and my fellow peers had four months of training where our skills were improved and developed in the general areas of business, such as business processes.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my programme. The people are one of the best parts as they make coming to work so enjoyable - therefore when i get the chance to work with new people its always an experience. I didn't expect the culture of the firm to be as good as it is. Due to the friendliness, any work I receive is explained in great depth to begin with and constant support is offered from all areas, including with university and professional qualification exams.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Deloitte?
  • I feel extremely valued. The leadership team have regular (every two months) meetings with ourselves as BrightStarts whereby we can voice any issues or concerns we have and anything we feel we need support with. These meets are very valuable as the leadership team do listen to us and even set up review meetings whereby they feed back to us what actions they have taken in response to our queries. In our first two semesters in university, we all preformed very well in our exams and this was fed back to Deloitte whereby we were continuously praised by everyone, even the partners.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is as expected - it's very well organised however may need tweaked as we are the first year they have ran it. Those involved have continuously asked for our feedback on the programme and how they can improve it. We have an unbelievable level of support from pretty much everyone in the firm. We also have a mentor system whereby we all were aligned 'buddies' at the beginning who were there for us if we had any problems.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training providers, in terms of university, are very supportive. For example, I had to miss a lecture which was the week before a class test, due to work commitments, and as I passed this by my lecturer I was then told that if I didn't understand anything when I was catching up to ring or email my lecturer for help.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is brilliant. My manager has regular meetings set up whereby he checks in to see how im doing and how im coping with the level of work i have and how im finding my university workload. His attitude is simply to do as much as he can in order to ensure i am supported and enjoying my work.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My current salary is almost perfect, in my opinion. Not many at 18 can afford to head off to Orlando for two weeks and pay for it all themselves. I can! However, i have no living expenses as i still live at home although i travel 46 miles (one way) to get to work every day and this is expensive in terms of fuel, but manageable with my salary.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Deloitte is amazing for opportunities. For example, a group from work just completed the Hell 'n Back at the weekend whereby they raised money for charity in doing so. There are also many social events that take place regularly so it doesnt always just feel like a place of work, i always feel very included. There are also opportunites for volunteering etc.

  • 9. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would and have recommended Deloitte to almost everyone i know due to their amazing and friendly culture and the opportunities they have. Also, I think there's nothing like the Brightstart Scheme - there are literally no downsides or faults to it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Be relaxed and be yourself.
