  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a member of the Audit team. As audit juniors we form a part of the client site team. This involves going out to client site and performing the main bulk of the audit testing. We test basic transactions such as cash and debtors, because of our regular site visits have a lot of face time with the client. Sometimes we spend time in the office although this is rare. When in the office we help either close down the audit or plan for a new one. This is usually an assistant managers role, but its good to learn as one day we will be responsible for this.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am studying for ACCA qualification and have completed 2 out of 15 exams. We attend regular internal training courses, these aren't that great because they tend to go over things you naturally learn on the job and tend to come too late. My professional skills have improved greatly. I can now do basic things like sending emails. This is a task which I was fairly uncomfortable with to begin with as I was unsure how formal to be etc. This should be taught in schools.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Greatly, the job can sometimes be a little boring but the group of people I work with are amazing. The team is fairly young and there are lots of social activities that are natural and do not seem forced like in some work places. The firm is very good at welcoming school leavers into the firm, the transition process from school to work has been tough but Deloitte have greatly assisted us on this journey.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Deloitte?
  • Very, despite having little technical knowledge compared to the rest of the team our thoughts are always considered. This is a great learning tool. It's clear that the team want you to exceed in your role and are very helpful in assisting you to do so. I quickly felt comfortable and valued by the team.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • A lot, there's always people with more experience around they are happy for you to ask as many questions as necessary. We go to First Intuition for college and they are very good. You can easily contact your course tutor if you don't understand anything. They also provide good revision notes and have online lessons which you can access at your convenience.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are always people to ask questions to. You are given time off for studying and exams which is greatly appreciated. There is also a buddy system in place by which you have an assigned buddy in the intake above who maintains regular contact with you and helps you with any issues. You also have an appraiser who has regular meetings with you to discuss your performance and feedback.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The firms pay is based on your location. We are paid less than people in the London office despite studies showing it is just as expensive to live in Cambridge. Besides from this pay is not an issue. We are paid above the national apprentice wage so can't complain.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes there are sports clubs and social events that are regular. There are also occasional charity challenges.

  • 9. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a great firm to work at and there are lots of opportunities that are made available to you both relating to work and home life.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Make sure you practice for the online tests. The content isn't too difficult but you need to be confident with the layout of the test. Lots of people fail at this stage and shouldn't. Once you are past this stage it's important you do lots of research ahead of your interview. It may not seem necessary but you can never be over prepared.
