Assistant Associate, Audit. Working on a range of client sites across the South East and Greater London. Responsible for audit testing. Have with a range of professionals both within and outside of Deloitte.
Due to the large responsibility given from the start, I have quickly learned how to test most components of the financial statements for audit purposes. I am also studying towards the ACA (Chartered Accountancy Status).
At times the workload can seem a little overbearing. I can feel as though I push myself a little too hard! However social opportunities do exist and I can enjoy my job depending on the team/client that I am working with.
I feel that I am valued and respected by Deloitte as, though I am an Apprentice (and not a graduate like most of the new joiners) I am able to do all the work that Graduates can do and am respected as an equal member of the team (despite my lack of a degree).
The programme is 5 years long and is well established. Exams and study leave/college is structured appropriately and rigidly. As far as performance/mentoring is concerned I am able to call on both my "buddy" and "appraiser" for support and advice.
The firm pays for all the exams as well as college fees, study materials and so forth. The college provider Kaplan is of a good standard.
The firm pays for all the exams as well as college fees, study materials and so forth. Furthermore, as mentioned previously there is my buddy and appraiser to call upon for help. Most are generally supportive of me and sympathetic to my position as a first year e.g. taking more time to explain things in detail to me.
I am paid a very good salary for someone of my age. I live at home with my parents and so do not have much expenditure. Opportunities for hierarchical promotion and large salary jumps are also available as I progress through my 5 year contract. Furthermore, expenses when on jobs are paid for me, including large allowances when staying away from home.
Due to the heavy workload of this job, maintaining a work-life balance has been difficult for me at times. The company itself does offer a range of charitable events/other activities.

If you are hard-working, focussed and motivated with a logical mindset, you will enjoy getting stuck into the work Deloitte offers. The remuneration you are provided with in return provides (in my opinion) a better alternative than university.
1) Proof read and double check the initial application to ensure that it is top quality. 2) Practice and prepare for the two E-Assesments that you need to pass. 3) Be confident, enthusiastic and honest at your interviews. 4) Ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for A levels.
