I am completing an apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering. For 4 days a week I operate CNC machinery, the other day I am at college completing my HNC. I am also completing an NVQ while on site.
Yes I have learnt many new skills, some personal to me and others to my job. The training offered has been very good. When I have completed my 4 years I will be fully qualified with a HNC.
I enjoy working with the people here, they are all very friendly and offer lots of support if im ever stuck or need guidance. I also enjoy the activities I do and I am always learning.
I believe the apprenticeship programme is very good as you get a hands on experience and they offer you support whenever you need it. They are regularly checking your progress and offering to help.
The programme is well structured as I am rotated around sections regularly meaning I am learning how to set run and load various machines and operating systems. My college supervisor regularly visits the site to check up on my progress.
Lots, he is regularly on site checking mine and the other apprentices progress. He offers support all the time and I know he is only a phone call or email away.
Again, lots. They provide PPE equipment and allow me some time to complete the course work if needs be. If I have any problems I can contact them with ease.
The salary is okay, I think it would be better if we received more, but I am currently doing fine.
Yes, there are plenty of various activities that I have completed or put my name forward for.
Yes
I think the apprenticeship offers a good way in to a job, you pick up valuable skills while also getting a very good qualification and earning a good living too.
Make sure you have everything together before you go for your interview. Prepare yourself well and practice.
