My job title is a Brand Building Apprentice for Desserts in Ice Cream. Within the role I have been given the brand of Viennetta to look after which comes with a lot of projects to work on! I have grown to love this brand as it has a great concept behind it. As part of my role it involves liaising with both internal and external which can have its challenges, but what doesn't!
Since I have started, I have learnt how to use the in-house programmes to find data which is extremely interesting and also developed as a person, this has allowed me to become more independent.
The programme is excellent and has fully exceeded my expectations. The team I work within have all treated me as if I have always been there and are very accepting.
I feel as if Unilever appreciates each and every one of the apprentices. I have a dedicated line manager who i have got to know very well and so she is very easily approachable for any problem that I have. My team have also involved in projects that do not necessarily cover Viennetta which is great as it gives me more experience.
The programme has a good structure to it as when you initially start there will be 2 days of inductions with the rest of the intake; this gives you a chance to get to know one another. There is also as much training as you can take with a good support system from the team around you. The team also treat you as an equal, not like you are at the bottom of the food chain.
From my tutor I receive a lot of support and guidance as and when I need it, there are also regular face to face catch ups so they can really see me in the working environment rather than just over email!
My employer is amazing as you can really tell that they value each and every apprentice. For the first few months they give you a mentor who is a current apprentice that started at an earlier intake, this is while you find your feet and to ask someone those silly questions you were too afraid to ask anyone else! This is a really goof system as it puts you at ease and helps you settle in quicker.
The salary is one of the best for an apprenticeship and although it isn't a great deal it is still enough to cover my rent, petrol, food, social outing and even to save!
As there is a great work-life balance, it allows you to carry on with an pre-existing hobbies. There are also a great deal of opportunities to volunteer at events that Unilever are a part of.
Yes
I am almost certain that my friends would love the programme as much as I do!
The application process is quite straight forward, the only advice I would give is the generic "be yourself". Unilever really looks at the type of person you are and if you show who them who you really are, this is exactly what they would be looking for.
