I am responsible for providing electrical engineering knowledge to signalling maintence and fault finding on railway lines working in a planned way and responding to emergencies day or night.
So many including team working, leadership, relationship building, health and safety, electrical engineering and technical understanding of signals, railway operations, maintenance and emergency procedures.
This is a comprehensive apprenticeship that builds your knowledge daily but also stimulates your mind, stretching you to do things you would never have done, including preparing you physically for the visors of hard work.
I have been given the opportunity to do different roles in various teams. Also I have regular meetings with my manager who supports and advises me on developing my skills and knowledge.
The course is very comprehensively structured. We have block release several times a year, living on site with my class cohort. This allows us to focus totally on our learning away from other distractions.
Our tutors have expert knowledge in their fields, they can easily answer our queries and provide us with the motivation to complete quality work. I can think of no better training that could be offered.
Team members at my local network rail depot help provide me with opportunities to complete my NVQ assignments and give me guidance when I'm not completely certain of how to do something.
I consider my apprenticeship wage as adequate for my current needs as I live at home and borrow a family car, so my commitments are quite small. However folder apprentices may struggle .
I have particularly enjoyed the physical training I have received which has encouraged me to do body building and attend a local gym regularly. This has improved my self esteem and health.
