My job role is a trainee tax advisor - on a day to day basis I do a lot of engagement admin (GTACs, MSA & SOW, setting up codes etc), I also get involved with preparing computations and QIP payments
Yes, I feel that in my 9 months at EY I have vastly developed skills such as communication skills like writing emails, and developed skills on excel and onesource when preparing computations. I have been on 2 internal training courses and have been on 2 college courses so far
I work in a team of around 40 people and find this thoroughly enjoyable as I get to interact with a variety of different people on a day to day basis. The contrast to sixth form is immense, but it has definitely met all of my expectations of the role!
I feel valued by the company as when I deliver a piece of work the senior staff are appreciative of this. EY also has a £50 reward policy that are given out when someone goes over and above their job role.
I have been on 2 internal training courses and have has knowledge sharing sessions since I have started. I was also assigned a buddy and a counsellor before I began. I feel that when I first started the programme could have been more structured and I could have had a 2nd/3rd year trainee take me through some basic jobs that I would do regularly
The most support I receive in the office is for 2nd/3rd years and Level 2s - they regularly make themselves available to help to develop my knowledge. I feel as though EY as a company could provide more support
I can receive support from my counsellor if there are any issues I am experiencing, however I am primarily left to my own devices - this is good in a way as I would not want to feel patronised.
My salary covers my living and travel costs, however it is a lot lower compared to a graduate wage. I understand that graduates have been through 3 years of university but they may have a degree in Geography for example which is irrelevant to their job and we also perform the same tasks.
Yes, there is a wide variety of clubs to get involved with such as netball/football and also an EY Birmingham ministry of fun who organise events outside of work such as summer BBQ's and Christmas parties. There is also opportunities to get involved with the EY Foundation and attend recruitment events such as the national apprenticeship fair.
Yes
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 9 months at EY and have been welcomed into the team by everyone I work with. I think it is an amazing world wide, very creditable company to work for
My advice would be to take your time through your application process and be flexible on which days you are able to attend interviews/assessment centre. Definitely be yourself in the interview as EY welcome individuality and personality
