  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am within GPS Audit which means that I am involved in the simpler areas of an audit engagement and my main involvement is with government clients such as CCGs and Local Government bodies. I get involved in new things every day and get to meet new people all the time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently working towards my Chartered Accountancy Qualification under ICAEW and so I have developed many skills through this course. Within EY we have many training opportunities and weeks away in new places to learn more about our jobs as we progress.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a great deal because I work within a very small team and have gotten to know every one very well. The job is challenging but interesting and not at all what I expected. Audit is very different to accounting but gives you a lot more experience.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • EY value us very much, we get thrown straight into tasks and get given as much support as we need. There is a lot of expectations but the tools are provided to help you meet and exceed those.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • For me the structure of the training is difficult because we are a smaller department within the company and have a different busy period to other within the company who are the majority and because of this my exams fall at my busiest time of year, However the programme itself has very clear structure and we are aware of when everything will be happening within our 5 years.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When joining EY you get assigned a buddy and counsellor. Both of mine have been n=incredibly supportive and are available whenever I need to ask questions. The IT and HR department are easily accessible.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I struggle sometimes with the wages provided as I am currently trying to run a car in order to get to client sites as well as attempting to save ready for when I decided to move out of my parents house. However the petrol expenses are very good and come back quickly to cover my expenses for the month so I am never without what I need

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • EY is involved in many different sponsorships and recruitment and so there are constantly emails looking for volunteers to get involved. Within EY they also have many social events.
