As a school leaver in the assurance sector of our firm, my day to day role varies depending on client and team requirements. Mostly, my dad will consist of audit testing i.e. making sure numbers are reasonable. This will involve me doing year on year analysis, taking into factors which would affect the financials during the year alongside as then querying when the changes we expected did not go through. This involves constant dialogue with clients as well as managers and above.
I have learnt/developed many skills: - using market data to set expectations - time management and organisation - confidence in questioning senior members of client staff - developing my technical knowledge especially on accounting standards
I greatly enjoy the programme. As with any job, there are some very stressful days when deadlines are near. However, this is part of the job at a world renowned firm like EY and this has to be taken positively. Overall, I have learnt a lot through this programme.
I feel very valued by EY as I am able to work with Directors and Partners directly as well as talk to senior members of client staff independently. I am trusted to manage my work life schedule and hence have a very healthy flexible working life.
The programme is structured quite well and everyone is aware of how they will progress and when they will sit exams. As this is the 3rd to 4th year this programme is running, it is clearly visible that a lot of work has gone into this programme to make it as structured as it is.
The business college I attend is excellent and the tutors always make themselves available to attend to your needs.
I receive a lot of support from the firm especially team members in that I am able to ask questions without the fear of being judged.
My salary is excellent especially for a 19 year old without a degree. It is a great wage and fares well in being able to meet costs in an expensive city like London and still be able to do things you want and save!
There are loads of opportunities to get involved with, including: - EY Foundation - charity whereby lots of fun stuff is always happening - EY Networks - These are like university societies and something or another is always on going - Department Socials - These are quite often and it is nice to see your wider department every once in a while - Team Socials - These are by far the most frequent, with social events happening every Friday or so and a nice formal dinner after work is completed on a client.
