Apprentice in Transportation. Mainly working on AutoCAD but also completing other tasks and site visits. These include current work on the A14, A428 and work for the Crowne Estate in Westminster.
Yes I have learnt to use AutoCAD proficiently and developed my skills within an office environment. I have completed a lot of health and safety training as well as attending other training sessions.
I very much enjoy the work I do and the people I work with as they are all really nice helpful people. It has exceeded my expectations and helped develop me as a person.
I feel valued by my team but I cant speak for value on behalf of Atkins as it is such a big company that no one senior knows any apprentices to my knowledge.
My programme is very well structured as it has been taken over by STEGTA and they coordinate the majority of the learning side which equates to the Edexcel certificate at the end.
I receive no support from my college tutors, sadly. However I have my STEGTA training officer and my colleagues who are happy to help me along the way.
I receive support from my line manager as and when I need it. my mentor is there constantly supporting me through the apprenticeship. They are both very supportive and helpful when it comes to confronting problems that I may have.
If I want to live at home then they my salary meets my costs fine. I would not be able to be independent while I am an apprentice at Atkins. However, Atkins pay all expenses occurred for college and other reasons. I don't get out to see friends much as I find that I don't have the money to be sociable.
My office has recently started becoming more sociable in the sense that we all go out and participate in sport and have many socials throughout the year. Before I was working I was a lot more sociable and used to play sports every week now I don't find the time or have the money to join in with my friends in these activities.
Yes
Because the people I get to work with are very nice and the work that I receive I enjoy and take in my stride.
Don't forget to include minor things in your cv. I.e. if you are applying to work in a team where you will be designing public realm (public spaces) and you used to work for a landscaper then include that in your CV.
