My role is as an audit associate. Day to day we go out to client sites to complete fieldwork where we analyse figures given to us and agree to supporting documentation to ensure they are not materially misstated by errors or fraud. We also plan audits and complete audits to ensure the accounts are signed on time.
Developed a lot of new skills. Coaching more junior members of staff, and also training for my exams for ACCA. Internal training to increase my technical knowledge around the ISA's as well.
The programme is good and full of energy and training. The people are sometimes not so great being in a large office people do not always get on.
I feel the leadership team who are detached from the associates are more likely to value the employees than the managers we work with on a day to day basis. I feel people expect too much and do not appreciate what I give in my own time.
The programme is very structured which means it does not give us any choice. Exams are set and we cannot pick which order we want to do them or where we would like to do them.
Training provider is amazing. Kaplan tutors are always there to give a helping hand and call, email or in person explain things to us. We can also go into college after work and at the weekends for study time.
The employer is not very supportive. There is a strict rule of 2 fails of exams and you are out in our training contracts so this heightens the pressure of passing exams whilst working overtime on clients as well.
No. The salary is good but compared to other companies around the area and graduates the salary is not worth the amount of hours and work I am doing.
None - there used to be a lot but recently the office moral has dropped meaning no activities take place as no one signs up to go so they have to be cancelled. One major event during the year but was bad timing this year with exams and could not attend.
Yes
I would recommend grant thornton to a friend because although there are many downsides, it is a good step in the door for their accountancy career.
Be yourself and confident. If you're not hard working, don't bother applying.
