I am a mechanical engineer apprentice, My day to day role on site is do report to my shift leader and see which jobs they would like me to work on, I interact with many employees each day. 4 days of my week I am at college and am studying mechanical engineering, mechanical craft and electrical instalation
Ive gained a level 2 btec in electrical installation, mechanical craft and am halfway through my extended diploma in mechanical engineering. I have completed many training courses on site, some mandatory and some optional. Ive learnt how to interact with others in the working environment and adopt a corporate attitude.
I love every aspect of my program, work is the best part as there is always something different to each day. All the people I work with are very nice and are respectful and it has fully gone beyond my expectations.
Very, I feel that people respect me always and even though im an apprentice I am treated equally. People often commend me on my work on site and at college which makes me fell valued.
Very. All inductions and initial setup at the beginning of the program is done in the first week, on site I have been rotated from various departments so I can get a feel for which sector I would like to study further in. We have a weekly meeting to discuss any problems as well as my managers door always being open if I need to speak to him.
They are very helpful and supportive and really try to tailor my education the best the can to the work I want to pursuit at work. If i get a problem they are always most helful.
The company supports me well, they want to push for me to do the best I can and reach every goal I can. They always try their best to help whether its funding for books and tools or just more time, they always help me.
My salary is very good, at the end of each month I am always left with savings and enough money to get through my day to day life very happily.
I recently took part in my annual team building trip, this year I took part in the outward bound Eskdale trip in which I spent a week in Eskdale doing various activity's with a group of GSK employees from all over the country, this was extremely memorable and enjoyable.
