  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in audit within Smith & Williamson's Assurance and Business Services department. My day to day role often involves working at my clients office with a team of about three. If I am not out on site, I'll usually be in the office doing accounts preparation, planning or completion. I've been responsible for many different parts of the audit in my 18months working here.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a lot of new skills such as organizing time and learning how to interact with different people. I'm also studying for the ACA qualification and so through this and internal training, I have learnt a lot about accounting and the different rules and standards.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working with a range of different people and businesses on a daily basis. Also, the work and team social events are excellent.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Evelyn Partners?
  • There is a great support network in place from having mentor, appraisal manager and from working alongside people who are going through the same process as you. All staff are approachable and it's nice to get the recognition when you do something well.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well structured. We have our college dates and exams organised for us and these reflect where we are career wise. Alongside this, we have regular internal training sessions to prepare us for the work will be performing as we make the transition from junior to senior on an audit.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We get a lot of support from our training provider. Our tutors will give us their contact details to allow us to ask them any questions while we are studying and are always willing to answer any of our questions after class.

  • Smith and Williamson give us a lot of support from both a work and training perspective. There is a great support network in place from having mentor, appraisal manager and from working alongside people who are going through the same process as you.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary definitely meets my needs and allows me to cover all of my costs and have some spare to spend on myself!

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many social events within my department and its fun to get involved on these. Some have included pizza making and beer pong! There are also different committees within the department that you can become a member of, such as the social committee.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Working at Smith and Williamson opens the door to so many different opportunities for now and the future. As well as this, you have the chance to work in a young environment with people your age, which I think can be quite hard to achieve as a school leaver.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Evelyn Partners?
  • First and foremost be yourself! Also, its good to ensure that you have done your research on firm and on the role that you are applying for.
