Smart Futures Intern A young person being educated and expericneing the working world first hand. A three week program where the intern will spend time learning about EY, key business skills, meeting key people within the firm and putting all those skills into use. Everyday is very different to the last and a lot is learnt over the three week period. Afterwards each intern in assigned an intern to help them for 10 months.
EY pushes you to be the best and all you do. You learn that from the moment you arrive. Skills such as effective communication, how to present to different audiences and how to carry yourself in the business environment. All these skills and more were tested on a daily basis and you had to do it all on your own. You grow in confidence and the fear of the big working world slowly fades.
I had no expectations because it is such a unique opportunity. I was ready to absorb everything they threw at me. The people who are also apart of the program are just like me. That is one thing that really surprised me! Genuinely smart, hard working and dedicated people. Everyone had their own gift and talent and the were good at it. EY is a great place to work, the employees closely mirror the core value on a day to day basis. This is everyone, from the reception staff right to the partners.
EY strongly values their people and the unique skills that they may bring. We are reminded of that very often. There are many opportunities for people to grow and tailor their work to them. You are readily given feedback on the tasks that you do and strongly encouraged to ask as many questions as you want.
It was clearly documented how the program would work. Everything we needed to know was given in advance allowing smooth flowing of the program. Also at each step we were reminded of what needed to happen.
There were always people on hand to help at when ever needed. New people came to talk to us on a daily basis which allowed fresh perspectives to be in the room at all times. We have also been given a mentor that will stick with us for the duration of 10 months.
Anything that we ever needed was just a question away. No matter how big or small the matter was we were always encouraged to ask.
Due to the relatively short time spent at EY, not many cost were encountered. However the pay package is sufficient.
From speaking to people at the firm at different levels, it seems that there is a lot to do at EY beyond the working day.
