I'm currently a Support Analyst working for a large government client. Day-to-day activities revolve around regular application checks, resolving incidents as they are raised by the client, and developing code changes to existing software packages. For 6 months I was also involved in a .NET development project in which I wrote C#, SQL, and HTML code in order to help develop a web application.
I've gone from no programming knowledge to being familiar with various, including (but not limited to) C#, C, Java, PHP, T/SQL, PL/SQL I've had the opportunity to undergo ITIL training, and have improved a great deal at talking to clients, and internal staff.
I enjoy my job a lot, as different challenges crop up every day. The people I work with day-to-day are superb and we regularly go out for team meals, events and such. We even went to an India vs England cricket match in Birmingham! The atmosphere is confidence inspiring and very relaxed, though they do push you to aim higher, both technically and with levels of responsibility.
Very valued. I've achieved recognition awards for particular good pieces of work which I've been involved with, and every time I work with particular applications I'm satisfied with the knowledge that I've contributed to it's construction.
Well structured. Our modules are planned well in advance and we each have had a "buddy" to assist in our degree work to give us advice and guidance. Our study leave is planned out and our programme leaders are very approachable (and knowledgeable!)
A large amount. It's primarily online learning at this stage with Aston University, with recorded lectures, virtual sessions with learning assistants and other online course material. We also have multiple on-campus days in a year in order to cement our understanding of the topics.
A great deal. My team is very encouraging and are very interested in the work I do in relation to the degree. It's positive to see an employer so dedicated to helping their employees succeed!
Perfectly! Significantly better paid than your average apprenticeship, full employee benefits and a full-time job post-degree. You can't say fairer than that.
Voluntary groups work with Capgemini, internally and externally, which employees are encouraged to be involved with through our internal recognition platforms.
Yes
Excellent package, well supported with a great company culture. As it stands I could easily see myself staying with the company for many more years!
Just be likeable. It goes a long way in an interview if the interviewer likes you. Your CV and grades speak for themselves. In the interview they want to know more about you, your personality, and essentially whether you'd be a good fit for the company. Having been involved in voluntary work previously certainly helps, and if you've completed any projects which show a passions for the subject you'll be studying it will be very helpful!
