During my day to day work I take part in system admin tasks such as creating users, changing passwords and permissions. This also includes problem solving such as finding out why services are running slowly and how to avoid this problem in the future.
I feel that I've learned a lot more about computing with capgemini than I ever did with college. Capgemini have been able to give me real work experience on problems and solving them to a time limit whilst dealing with other aspects of my work. I feel that my time management has greatly improved alongside my technical skills that I've also been able to take exams for.
At the start of the programme I found it a bit hard to keep up as it was a lot of new stuff at once, however once I concentrated on the key things and didn't let myself get flustered I was fine. The programme is always offering me new courses to take part in and the people are great.
I'm always getting constant feedback on my work to let me know I'm doing well, it seems like such a small thing but it really makes you feel good. The biggest plus was we were given an easter egg at easter, it sounds so simple but it really managed to pick up everyones spirit.
The training offered is fantastic, the range of courses that are on offer to us is outstanding, if I was to have gone through the Uni route it would have cost so much to take part in all the courses I've done in my 3 years. The only problem is that sometimes courses aren't located at the base office and require travelling down south for a very short course.
My adviser was through QA and she was great, I had monthly meetings to let her know how I was getting on and how I could progress to the next level. She was constantly keeping us updated and even hand delivered our final certificates.
Capgemini are VERY flexible when it comes to something that would benefit you as an employee, they understand that by allowing me to go on a course it not only benefits me in the long run but it also helps them. They tell me about courses that I didn't even know existed and show me new technologies that might interest me to keep my work fresh and exciting.
The pay at Capgemini is great, with constant opportunities for pay rise and promotions I really don't have anything to complain about. The offices are always located near either a town center or a train station for easy access. In Telford the offices can be easily reached by either the A442, M54 or the train.
There's a sports and leisure club that always has events on however it doesn't tend to be the younger age range turning up to those events. Each year we've been for a team meal after a good release or around Christmas. We are also given the opportunity to give back to the public by taking part in the volunteer days, for example one I've been to was at Blist Hill Victorian museum where we helped create a stair case.
Yes
For Telford I feel like it was the best option out there and I was right! I've made a lot of friends in the process and picked up many skills.
It sounds cheesy, but be yourself! Capgemini is a very friendly company and is definitely about it's people. Just enjoy yourself and be honest about what you feel confident about even if it sounds like bragging.
