I currently work within the Security Incidents area as an investigator. My daily tasks include liaising with the customer and 3rd party penetration testers to organise penetration testing for client infrastructure, to ensure that they are not vulnerable. I also support internal investigations for security breaches to ensure that the risks are minimised and ensure that it does not happen again.
I have attended various Security courses such as CISMP. I left this course with several new skills and a better understanding of how Security works. Previous to this I had heard many of the phrases but I didn't actually understand what it meant. I also gained some qualifications from courses in partnership with Telford College of Arts and Technology.
I did enjoy my programme. It allowed me to gain various qualifications, it got me in the job market and it provided an alternative to University.
I feel valued by my team lead and I feel that he appreciates the work that I do. Since starting my apprenticeship I have received various recognition awards.
I feel that this has greatly improved. When I first started I felt that after the induction that was it, there was no more support. However, recent in takes have on going support.
I have had various training providers. These range from PTI to QA and they provide a wide range of training courses.
I do receive a lot of support from my employer. This is mainly from my team leader. I feel that he appreciates the work that I do.
I feel that I could benefit from a slight increase, this is because I have recently noticed the 'pinch' as I have bought a house with my other half. I am able to pay the bills but it leaves me really short and therefore I am unable to enjoy leisure activities. It took me a significant amount of time to save for the house as well and that was skimping and saving.
There are loads of outside opportunities. You always see on our portal homepage various voluntary opportunities, challenges etc. It is always nice to see the final results of people actions as the volunteering team always provide updates.
Yes
Overall it provides another opportunity as opposed to Uni. It allows you to gain skills on the job. Whilst you gain new skills you are also able to progress in your career via promotions etc so it really does set you up to succeed. I have found that a lot of the skills that I have learnt can be taken elsewhere if required.
Do not pretend that you know everything in the interview. They will know. If you do not know the answer to the question then be honest!!
