My job title is an Applications Consultant working within the Applications Outsourcing business unit. So far, my daily tasks at present include just generally furthering my knowledge in my developer role until I'm on an account.
Since joining Cap, I have developed many skills, both technical and interpersonal. My technical skills in programming languages such as Java and SQL/PLSQL have greatly developed and I feel rather proficient at both now. As for interpersonal skills, my communication has come on leaps and bounds, usually quite the introvert, I feel as though I've been brought out of my shell.
So far I am enjoying my programme a lot. The team within which I work has a great atmosphere and energy to it, there's no question too small to ask and that's a great feeling. It has definitely exceeded my expectations, I didn't expect people to be so approachable.
So far I feel extremely valued, my manager's great. Whilst dealing with my anxiety disorder, he makes the time and the effort to make sure I'm okay and if any adjustments are needed to make my day to day life easier and to generally reduce my anxiety in the workplace. Because of this, it makes me feel extremely valued.
I would say my programme is very well organised and structured. My goals and objectives are very clean cut and concise, making it easier to know what I'm working towards and how to successfully achieve them. The on-campus days are pre-selected making it simple to book them off work and put the dates in my calendar.
So far we haven't received much in terms of support from our training provider. However, this is because the majority of our work doesn't start until September. This being said, I know that support is available if needed.
In terms of support received from my employer, it's been second to none. Compared to previous jobs I've never known support like it. As previously mentioned about my anxiety disorder, my manager is extremely supportive and checks in with me regularly to see how I'm doing.
When I initially started, I was commuting for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening going to and from work, I was extremely drained and it was costing me a fortune in petrol. However, I have recently relocated closer to work, as well as the reduced travel time, the salary/package is now more than enough to cover my general costs.
There are plenty of opportunities outside of work, I have already been given the chance to take part in a school careers day where I will surely be advocating this apprenticeship.
Yes
I would highly recommend Capgemini to a friend. Career progression opportunities aside, this job has changed my life for the better. For the first time I have job security, a solid career development path and all the support I need, doing a job I genuinely love.
The advice I would give to others applying to Capgemini would be to work hard and persevere, it's a long application process but it's definitely worth it. Cap offers so many opportunities for personal and professional development so why not take them?
