I am and audit associate. I travel to different clients across the North West and help audit their accounts. I have interactions with FD's of businesses and learn the ins and outs of how the business works.
My confidence has increased as I am forced into situations I would normally avoid, e.g. speaking to an FD about their accounts. I have also learnt the basics to accounting of which I had no previous knowledge.
I really enjoy my team and the people who I work with however I am leaving the apprenticeship soon as I have discovered that working in finance is not for me.
I feel extremely valued by Grant Thornton. They are very helpful and a caring training provider which show recognition and praise for all work completed.
Originally my programme wasn't very well structured however this was due to our training provider Kaplan and their lack of organisation for study time and exam dates.
Kaplan offer a lot of support and extra tutoring if need be. At GT as well there is a lot of support as many colleagues can help with exams and queries.
My line manager is very supportive and asks me regularly for updates on how I am doing and how my exams are going. They have a positive attitude to wanting to help and support me.
I believe the work I complete including travel and living expenses is not enough to be on £15500 a year. This is not enough money to move and live in Manchester city centre and often a monthly wage is not enough to get me to and from work from Preston.
There are many social events with work including 'First Friday Fun'. There are also many sports teams including a netball and football team.

Grant Thornton offer lots of support and the employees are all very nice and work as a team. This is a good environment to work in. You never feel too under pressure as there is always someone to tell.
Show how you will work within a team and be confident. Don't just focus on the academic side but show who you are as a person and what you like to do in your spare time. How you will mesh within the team and your personality is a large part of our application and selection process.
