I stand in as a manager supporting and leading intake processes all the way through to the product leaving the warehouse. Anyone in this role is expected to communicate performances, misconduct, compliance issues, etc. both to depot management and across the network.
During my apprenticeship I have attained a level 3 qualification in warehousing and logistics as well as having been on a variety of internal courses aimed at developing all up and coming managers. I have also gained a lot of experience in people management and the systems we use.
The work is fast paced and time restricted, so this can be very stressful at times. The team I work within are very welcoming and experienced so this was great for support. The company as a whole is always looking to further employees, whether it be through general task training or succession.
I receive appraisals at least annually, as well as having talks with my line manager, within which I feel I am given the correct amount of thanks and praise as well as target setting. My apprenticeship manager is always looking to help and communicates any feedback from events I am involved in which makes me feel appreciated.
The earlier stages of my apprenticeship were very structured and deadlines set for course work to be completed. There was an unlimited amount of support for this which was great. In my second year of the course, I have been less restricted in this area, so there is less structure, but more real experience to be gained. I still know who to speak to and what I should be doing.
The training provider was available most hours of the day when I was being tutored. When I had any issues, they were more than helpful and willing to support me.
My internal apprenticeship manager is always a phone call away and interested in all I am involved in. My mentor is also very supporting and interested in my development.
I am very happy with my salary and believe that it is a well paid job.
There have been a few apprenticeship events that have been a great networking experience and very enjoyable. I have also attended a local apprenticeship day for future apprentices. There are leisure centres in the area of the depot as well as easy train access to London.
Yes
Very involving, a growing company, well paid and an area of work that will always be needed.
Be comfortable in the image you want to give at to the interviews and assessments. Be the professional side of yourself, but don't be something you're not.
