I was part of the business insight week within PWC. This included an induction on day one, work shadowing on the afternoon of day one right through to day four and finally day 5 was a group project for a real client. Day to day we worked within four different sections in PWC, three days in tax and one in deals. Work was focused on building on skills and we had a mentor for each day to help with this and answer any questions we had.
Before the week I had very limited knowledge of excel but because most work is complied using excel I was able to pick up some tricks on how to use the programme effectively. Also communication and networking. We were set up with our own emails and had to manage our own personal profile and of course finally on the final day within the group project and presentation.
I really enjoyed the programme. I expected a typical 9-5 boring day job but instead was socially incorporated into the banter of the different sections. Work was balanced out and everyone had a positive attitude which was beneficial.
Obviously being a professional business service the employees are just as important as the projects with which they work on. Therefore I felt really welcomed, all my needs were met and had a lot of fun
As mentioned we were all assigned a mentor for the day who took us to their respective departments and gave us a brief introduction to the day ahead, what the department actually does and then got us stuck in. All mentors knew what they were doing and were well organised so they could balance our presence with their own work.
Hannah was the main person in charge of the week and she was extremely helpful with the introduction, getting us all settled in and making sure everyday we were happy with our work. On day 5 she took us through different pathways at PWC which was good to see what options I now having completed the week.

We got paid £7.20 an hour which was pretty good considering we were only on an insight course. Also PWC reimbursed any expenses which we incurred so for example I had to pay to get the train to Belfast but Pwc are going to reimburse that expense which is kind.
There are many opportunities outside of being an actual employee of PwC like the insight week, talent academy and going to career open days and office open evenings to o gain knowledge and experience.
Yes
It just benefited me so much. New skills and new meeting new people is always a great thing and being able to work on real work was amazing. I'll definitely be promoting it in school for younger years groups.
Just to enjoy the whole process. Even the applications and telephone interviews giving you a taster of what applying to work will be like I'm the future. If you do get on the week, again, enjoy it, embrace it and just get stuck in!
