  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a Mechanical fitting apprentice involves working with tradesman on tasks such as; honing, fitting systems, facing off etc.. to learn the skills need to become a qualified tradesman myself.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained my NVQ levels 2 and 3, key skills and other personal skills through college. Through my apprenticeship I have learnt many skills that will help me become a competent mechanical fitter.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the company of my squad at work, they are easy to get along with and work alongside. The companies nature of work is very good and it suits my needs perfectly.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • At BAE systems I feel very valued you are not treat as a number you are treat like a person. if I carry out a job well I will receive praise for it.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship programme, considering it has recently changed to a computer system, is very well structured and it is easy to get my work done.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I personally have had 3 training instructors with the influx of many more mechanical apprentices coming in to the business which has had a slight effect on my training but overall has been ok.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive plenty of support through my employer, if I have a problem I can ask my manager and it can be rectified.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary meets my needs very well, but could do with a Christmas bonus.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are occasional charity sports events that can be attended outside of work but I think this is something that needs working on by the company.

  • Yes

  • It is a very good place to work and presents many opportunities.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • work hard early on in your apprenticeship so it is easier later on.
