My role was to carry out tasks which would be common for a trainee solicitor to do which included research and finding material for the firm's publications. Essentially, we tried to help our supervisors in any we could.
If anything, it has allowed me to develop my proof-reading skills through the experience I have gained from doing that task.
I enjoyed my time here. Everyone I met was very nice and was happy to answer any questions I might have while also engaging in a pleasant, unforced conversation.
All my supervisors made me feel welcome and they always took the opportunity to thank me for the work I did (even when I don't think it's very important!).
The whole experience was very well organised with interesting presentations in the morning followed by taking our seats when that was over. There was never any structure/organisation issue and the idea for us to be fully incorporated into office life was very eye-opening into the world of a corporate law firm.
I was always able to have a conversation with my supervisor about anything I had a query about and they were always on hand to explain anything I wanted to know (i.e. a technical term). Their enthusiasm for this was very much appreciated.
Although I never encountered people in senior positions, I can honestly say that the non-supervisors around me were very nice also and more than happy to talk to me.
I would have perhaps have liked to have been provided with a free £5 voucher to use everyday so that some expenses could be covered. But I was happy to pay for my own travel to and from the firm.
I am aware of the many social aspects to Pinsent Masons from departmental charity competitions to firm-wide sports teams. The Hub is clearly a perfect location for lunch time socialising. But it obviously was hard for Work Experience Students to get involved when we are only here for a week.
Yes
Yes, I feel that it's good for more people to experience a non-stereotypical corporate law firm environment. Not everyone is serious and cold and isolated in their own office and the experience of being in this type of community while executing somewhat challenging pieces of work
Have lots of questions prepared so that you can gather a lot of different information which could be very useful to your career plans or even just going to university.
