as a work experience placement i was placed with both trainee solicitors and paralegals. my responsibilities included filling out lease reports in the property sector to entering in documents and folder names on a master page of a usb drive contents.i also carried out a research task on a company which had recently contacted the firm.
i learnt the meaning behind some basic legal terms (such as litigation) with relevant and interesting examples. i learnt basic email etiquette. i learnt how to fill out lease report and also developed my research skills.
i found the other work experience placements on my programme difficult to start a conversation with. i found a lot of the work to be a bit dull however it was interesting to see how even mundane tasks such as seeing how many spreadsheets are in a subfolder fit into legal cases.
the trainees/paralegals were very appreciative of the work i completed however there was no contact between myself and qualified solicitors in terms of work
the induction to the company was informative and interesting. the ict training was boring but necessary in case the placements had no real experience with computers. the presentations were well presented. task delegation did not appear very structured - i received basic task when they became available. other placements on my scheme appeared to spend time in multiple different sectors however i spent 3/5 days in the property department.
when support was asked for the trainees were very nice and obliging with providing their support however i sometimes felt unable to ask in fear of disrupting their work
it is unclear who was supposed to fill this role in the scheme. the woman who did the induction was very kind and offered us to come and see her if w had any problems and the trainees also provided support.
as this was only a week long work experience placement there was no salary which was expected.
as it was only a week long placement there were not really opportunities available to us however i did get to meet some clients which was interesting.
Yes
despite not receiving the most interesting work, it was a good insight into the professional world, the trainees were all very nice and the experience will be invaluable for any future applications
try hard to attain the best grades possible for yourself. demonstrate a drive to succeed and explain what makes you different to the other applicants - volunteering, sports, hobbies etc.
