  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • During my apprenticeship i work on both sites (warton and samlesbury) and do 7 4 month placements in diffrent areas. Currently i am working in flight test engineering where i am able to help plan flight tests and analyse the test itself, scribing the results of each test.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my microsoft skills i.e. word and excel. I have learnt how to network with other engineers in a professional manner, how to write reports and have done a number of internal training courses. These consist of ambassador training, first aid training and online engineering design.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the BAE Systems apprenticeship very much, it has exceeded my expectations and the work environment is professional. All employees are friendly and approachable and the company encourage your personal development.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • I feel that my efforts at work are always recognised, every year we have an awards evening where the ebst apprentice and those who work hard recieve awards. Whenever you put in the extra effort you are also awarded 'above and beyond' cerificates.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very structured, prior to starting any task you complete an induction and training. When you need help with any job you are given support and are usually given a mentor throughought your apprenticeship. The apprentices have their own council and forum so any issues can be recognised and solved as soon as possible. The programme allows you to study alongside working therefore you are given a day each week to go college.

  • When working on site your training provider and assessor are always there to support you when you need help or have an issue.

  • your managers and supervisor are always on hand to help if you need it. They always prioritise your needs in order to make sure you have the best experience in yur placement.

  • my salary meets all living costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a variety of extra curricular opportunities outside of work i.e. community events and STEM events.

  • Yes

  • BAE Systems has exceeded my expectations and is a great company to work for. It is a company where you can develop your learning and skills and is a company that gives you many opportunities to progress your career further.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • My main tip to those applying would be to never give up, the company like to see enthusiastic people.
