I am a work experience student, so shadow and work alongside trainee solicitors within the firm who give me work to do to assist them. I complete tasks and experience the firm.
I have learnt that I wish to possibly pursue a career within a commercial law firm. I have also learnt new communication skills, how to work as a team, and also how to find my own transport around London!
I have enjoyed the program a great deal! The only bad thing was that sometimes the trainees did not have much work for us to do, so we were sat around sometimes waiting for things to happen.
Yes. I felt a valued and included member of the team, which as a work experience student was a new and novel concept!
Very organised. The only negative was, like I said, sometimes the trainees were busy with other projects so did not have much time or work for us to do which was 'appropriate' as such.
Support was good. I would have liked some more advice about London, the tube system, trains, how to get around, accommodation advice etc.. Would also have appreciated a little more information prior to the program, such as my timetable so I could prepare more.
NA.
I was not paid for this experience as it was a work experience program. However I must admit it was very costly to come to London for the week (transport, tube costs, accommodation, food).. Not sure however there is anything that could be done about this as it is work experience.
No opportunities for socialising arose with the trainees or the other work experience students outside of the workplace.
Yes
Because it is a friendly and welcoming firm, with an amazing reputation and client base, providing many opportunities for employees and students.
Be prepared for costs incurred through this work experience program. Work hard, be sociable with people (do not be shy), and enjoy every moment of this amazing experience!
