I am on a work experience placement and have followed trainee solicitors as they did their day to day tasks. They provided me with work to enable me to gain an insight of what life as a lawyer is like and I helped with drafting letters, doing research and filing.
I have become more confident during this placement, particularly in a work environment. I have improved my communication skills, which i have realised to be a very important skill in a career in the field of law.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the programme. I have met other students with similar aspirations and goals as me, and I have experience what it would be like to work not only in law but also in a similar professional environment. Therefore i have learnt how to present myself and act professionally. Everyone I have worked with has been extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming.
Some of the supervisors have enabled me to help them with their own work and appear to have valued the help. Overall, everyone has been so welcoming and created a very positive atmosphere for me to complete my work experience in.
My programme was well organised. We were given a prgramme of events for the week which was very helpful and informative. However, it would have been nice to know the rotation system and where our placements would be each day, as there was once an issue with no one knowing where a supervisor was. Overall though, the structure was fantastic and the rotation system effective and beneficial.
Each work experience student had a different supervisor each day who would provide work and answer any question we may have had. This was very effective and beneficial, and all my supervisors were extremely helpful and supportive.
As i was on a work experience placement I was not employed. However, we did receive interesting and useful information about Pinsent Mason's employment system.
As previously stated, I was not paid as part of my work experience placement. However, I was very lucky in the location of the office as I could walk from home.
The firm has included the work experience students, and I have had an enjoyable time meeting new people and making new friendships thanks to the firm.
Yes
It has been a very informative and enjoyable week. I think anyone lucky enough to get a place on the scheme would be able to experience a new environment and learn an awful lot.
To be confident in your own abilities, to be dedicated and work hard. I also think that you should be open minded to meeting new people and enjoy challenges you may face.
