I am a work experience student at the Pinsent Mason's Birmingham office and I am at a different office everyday, for example on one day I was in Finance & Projects and the other in Pensions. I have completed a range of different tasks throughout the week such as: proof-reading documents, researching Joint Venture structures and third party rights, making a Deed of removal, writing an email on my advice about whether a Merger is legal and so much more.
We had to give a short presentation on our final day and this helped to develop my presentational and public-speaking skills. I have also learnt a lot of things that I didn't know before like laws about pensions and competition. Furthermore, the week has given me a real insight as to what life as a working solicitor is like.
I enjoyed it a lot it was very easy to make friends with the other work experience students, as there only a few of you, and you will actually be completing tasks that a solicitor would do rather than doing mundane, useless things like making the teas and photocopying.
Everyone is extremely friendly from the receptionists to the solicitors on the floor you are working on. Nobody makes you feel like you are a nuisance and everybody is happy to talk to you and answer any questions you might have.
It is very well structured with a timetable given to us at the beginning of the week allocating which office we are in everyday and the tasks are well thought out and challenging.
A lot of support, you are able to ask any questions you have and they are extremely helpful and friendly.
Again everybody is extremely friendly but I don't really have an employer because I'm a work experience student.
I'm a work experience student so I don't receive a salary.
I'm a work experience student so I've only been her for a week.
Yes
It has been an extremely worthwhile week which has given me a huge insight into what solicitors do and the way the law works.
Make sure you proof read your application and make sure there aren't any spelling mistakes. Also, research the firm so you have more of an idea as to how you think you will benefit by being accepted onto a Pinsent Mason work experience programme.
