commissioning apprentice, daily tasks normally include researching the days test, using the testform database, informing appropriate parties about it, carry out or supervise the test. learn parts of the system that the section I work with is responsible for, join it to current knowledge and slowly build a mental picture
I have developed many skills so far, such as my reasoning abilities. my job specific skills have improved to a certain extent this will get better when the 'quiet' period is over
I enjoy the program, and team im with, there is a lot of different experiences here. unfortunately I joined the company right at the time when the section I work in stopped being busy so I find it a struggle to learn as much as I expect to, this is due to change in march though
I feel very valued, whenever I email/phone my line manager he is always in a good frame of mind and always enquires after my health. recently I had a serious accident (outside work) upon my return all the people that I meet who I have worked with ask after me and make sure i'm well, giving me a sense of comradeship. im proud to be a part of a big team where people still think of each other
due to the many changes in capability managers the program changes a lot, I think it needs drastic improvement, this is happening now but slowly and frankly I feel its just a little to late for myself and people in test and commissioning. it needs to improve
from the college side, there is support but only if you (A) go looking for it, and push (B) are liked by the tutors
form the BAE side it varies, from early careers it would be hard for them to support me more they do a fantastic job, 9-10 from the DTO department, again due the changes in capability management I feel the support is poor at best, my learning has I feel been compromised. there is little to no structure apart fro what I have tried to implement myself, this appears to be changing but again it might be too late 2-3
due to my older than average age for an apprentice I do struggle occasionally but I feel that the salary is competitive and I am able to live not unpleasantly
for certain types of events yes, I think it mainly comes down to choice of personal fulfilment for myself there aren't many work supported events, but assuming responsibility for ones own enjoyment can be easily fulfilled in the south lakes provided one has a personal means of transport
Yes
it offer a long term of employment, the company is supportive, good wages, fulfilling job
gain life experience first, do lots of research into the area you (A) wish to work in (B) the site you wish to work at (c) the company as a whole in the interview section, in terms of presenting your project, choose something that you actually are interesting in and have invested time in don't be intimidated, the people doing the interview usually have been apprentices themselves and can recall exactly what it was like to sit where you sat
