I work in a technical support role, where I deal with technical issues with the software, hardware and network manager by Bloomberg. this means I deal with calls, tickets and live chats. I deal with clients on the desk and sometimes on site. my responsibilities are to make sure I manage my tickets, follow up, resolve technical issues, escalate if necessary and deal with programmers. I have projects to improve workflow, introduce new ides to the department and teach others.
yes, I have improved my verbal communications. I used to stutter a bit on the phone but now I speak clearly, concisely and to the point. I am able to deal with clients who are angry or unhappy and manage their expectations. I am able to communicate via email, live chat and on the line effectively and get my point across. definitely have improved my troubleshooting skills and listening skills. I have learnt how to deal with different parts of the company and external vendors. has really set me up for my future - skills that school could not provide.
I loved it, it was the best balance between coursework and working. was able to manage the workload with training at work and finishing the coursework. the company has been amazing and very welcoming. all my colleagues were amazing and such a positive culture. everyone is willing to help you out. it went beyond my expectations, I initially thought it would be too hard but with the support of my colleagues and mentor I was able to succeed.
my manager has been amazing always willing to give me feedback but most importantly listen to me and take on board my view. they are willing to push me and let me try new things. internally I was recognised for my works either by team emails, meetings or big department events. stepforward the apprenticeship provider has awarded me recognition and nominated me for awards, I have been treated just like any other rep in my team and able to participate in work events and competitions.
The Bloomberg work time was very organised, especially my training. we were given a timetable for the 3 months on the first day. StepForward however could have improved the teaching and the coursework pace, at the start we were going too slow. this could have been revised at an earlier stage top prevent a lot of people rushing CW.
I receive a lot of support form the provider however the coursework could have been better spaced out and finished earlier. I felt like they did too little at the start or was given the wrong info. they soon fixed it and we finished everything. but I cannot deny that I learnt a lot from them and received a lot of supportr.
I receive a lot of support from my employer, they make sure I am happy with working there and the training as well as the apprenticeship. they allow me to have time to finish CW and flexible. everyone has been helpful with CW and happy to answer my questions. they are very willing to understand what im doing and support me along the way.
I was happy with the salary and the in house Nurse helped. they have the best working conditions and standards for employees and strive to make sure we do. travelling is a big expense since I spent £1288 on an apprentice oyster. team dinners have mostly been on the company so that was great. there are many events at work which don't cost a penny. the location is great, 15 mins by train and very accessible.
yes, Bloomberg has events almost everyday and perks within the company to go to events outside of work and sponsored by it. there is a big summer party for employees and team dinners. they have their own sports clubs and groups. they have charity events and volunteering opportunities. when I wasn't working I was going to these events or socialising with apprentices.
Yes
apprenticeships set you up for the corporate life and provide you with the skills for your future, more so that school. I have learnt a lot and working in Bloomberg has been an amazing opportunity.
apply for it! enjoy it and work hard. to make the most of it you have to make mistakes, ask questions and network with others. apply to Step Forward. ask employers, go on websites. get your head in the game.
