Typically I had a presentation in the morning and then worked for my supervisor (a trainee) throughout the day. This varied slightly- on some days there was another presentation after lunch and on other days there was 2 presentations in the morning.
I have developed problem-solving and analysis skills, specifically through the comparison of documents. I furthered my social skills in meeting and talking to lawyers. In one of the presentations (on business) I developed debating and teamwork skills.
I loved my time at Pinsent Masons. It absolutely convinced me that law is what I want to do as a career. I found the presentations extremely informative and really enjoyed the work I was set, especially when I was actually helping the firm. I also loved the city centre location.
I thought that a lot of time was put into the organisation and the preparation before hand, and everyone was really friendly and helpful when I was there. Some of my supervisors in particular really taught me a lot and made my time incredibly beneficial for my future career.
Extremely well organised- the induction on arrival was informative and set me up for the week, and the information I was given prior to arriving was useful. I always knew where and what I should be doing when I was there- there was no time wasted.
Lots of support- my supervisors were unbelievably helpful and taught me so much- they gave me lots of time and enabled me to really get to know the law in their department e.g. property, pensions, litigation.
My employer was the same as my training provider- offering lots of support and putting on a well-organised and structured week which reflected a real week in a commercial law firm.
I wasn't given a salary. It was too far to travel on a daily basis so I had to stay in a hotel so my costs weren't met.
There wasn't any opportunities outside of work- but the work experience placement was only for a week.
Yes
It was an enjoyable experience and my time at Pinsent Masons reflected a real working week in a commercial law firm.
Firstly, definitely apply as it is a fantastic week! Be enthusiastic when you're there and be keen to learn new things.
