I was a work experience student. I got to sit with a different trainee in a different department each day. The work I did included work experience packs, so filling in forms and completing tasks as well as things sent to me by the trainees.
I have learnt how to better read and answer documents. Realised that not answers reveal themselves easily and not to take everything at face value. That it is a good idea to make a real effort to learn names and to make contacts.
It was an interesting experience. It tested me but also allowed me to realise that being a solicitor is not what I want to do. I had expected to have more of my work looked at.
Valued as they do take a lot of care and effort in running the work experience programme. The work experience packs were well put together and aimed directly at us whilst the timetables and added talks by the trainees, as well as the facebook group made us feel very valued.
well organised at face value, the trainees were around to take us to our departments and we had official timetables. However, sometimes I felt like I had been left to complete work by myself without discussion or understanding and it was never checked.
Depended on the department. Some trainees were brilliant at looking after us, always making sure I understood. Others forgot to tell me that I was allowed to leave and did not talk to me all day.
I was not employed.
I was not paid.
The trainees mentioned that there are many social chances. These include bowling and team sports. PM is the only firm with a dress up christmas party.
No
I did not feel like I achieved much other than realising I would not be going into these areas of law I experienced.
