Day to day an apprentice will work in the placement that they are given, or what they have requested to do. This work all depends on what placement you have got. You can sort your own placments out in the company or can be given one, its down to you. Work can vary from being on the shop floor, to being in the offices doing alsorts of different things. Mechanical, electrical, design, testing, system support, the list gors on...usually the work that you will do is very enjoyable, and a worthwhile experience.
Many, i have completed 4 placemnts currently and it has seen me gain a great deal of experience in design, a lot of hands on experience on the shop floor, followed by gaining a lot of building management experience and then working with uk atheletes in a uk sport partnership
i absolutely love it, it has allowed me to do so many different things, including extra things like world skills design competition as well as participate in the prince's trust programme, and then gain a great deal of experience in the day to day workings of the company. overall i couldnt have chosen a better option for after high school.
i feel very valued, the treatment you get is like an employee, not an apprentice. Of course there are certain safeguards in place but appart rom that you always feel part of the team and get stuck in doing the work that others will do. The management team behind you is very helpful aswell.
the programme has a very good structure, you start the first year in the training centre, and then go on to do on site placments. There are times where you can find yourself moving from one placment to the next with little notice (2 weeks) however it is still very manageable. overall the organisation is good considering the amount of apprentices that the management have to look after.
our training provider is our companym they offer us support, additional to this they have their own college, known as the longridge teaching centre, the support that we receive from this is fair, it could be improved to boost up the level of the students. However relative to the support that external organisations could give this is on par.
we receive a lot of support, there is a full managhement team for the full apprentice commuity, and they are there to offer help and support with whatever problems we have. They also arrange regular training sessions for us, to keep up to date with the company mandate.
The salary is very generous for the apprentices at BAE, you are not on a typical apprentice wage as the company believes in paying a fari amount for the employeees and does not want the apprentices to struggle finacially. You get pay increases as according to the standards at which you are trained to. 25% FE and then 75% actual level of training through your NVQ.
yes there are. oppotunities include ammbassadorship, where you go in to your local schools and give talks about BAE. additionally as an apprentice you can attend the world skills cometition where you are tested on your engineering skills. furthermore they are invloed with the prince's trust programme as well as running a german exchange for the apprentices. They also encourage the apprentices to help out with fundraising activities as well as recruitment for future apprentices.
Yes
It is a relly good company who treat you well and can give you a good solid future career. Due to the vastness of the company you are able to transfer and learn new skills and work in many different areas over your career. Furthermore you are a large community at BAE and there are so many things and oppotunities in it that make it a worthwhile career choice.
be yourself and show them what you cann do. You need to show a uniqueness to yourself but equally show that you are a good team player and can follow the initiatives of the company. To be bold, innovative and inspirational. To do this would set you in good steed to be accepted on to the apprenticeship programme for engineering.
