after finishing my first year, I am now progressing my skills and learning new ones in order to be ready to go out into the yard ad working on ships and alongside professionals.
I have learnt lots of new skills such as; parts of engines, pipe bending, brazing, valves and hydraulics as well as developing new ones; turning, milling and motor strip down.
I enjoy my programme and think I have learnt a lot. I still have skills that need to be learnt in order to feel confident progressing to the next step. I like working for BAE systems and feel the team support me.
I feel valued here at BAE systems and feel like I have had recognition and appreciation from my manager. I have been given several tasks to project manage where mine and others input was valued.
I think the first year was mostly organised with a few problems along the way but nothing major. I feel as if the progression into the second year could of been better. but first induction and initial training was good.
with out training provider we have received good support, this is from Babcock. any problems I have I feel confident asking for advice and the help is received.
from BAE systems I think the support is good, with regular weekly toolbox talk meetings and a monthly apprenticeship forum as well as reviews from the manager.
I think the salary is good and covers travel costs (Ferry) and anything else needed to live and socially. The bonus and pay rise is also helpful.
there are opportunities such as an ambassador programme. there is also events to get women in engineering that I take part in. I think there should be more sports and leisure clubs.
Yes
I would recommend BAE systems to a friend because here you can learn and develop necessary skills in order to get a good qualification. you can also use it as a foundation qualification with other things to progress to such as the HNC programme, as well as a good competitive salary.
I would advise pope to apply and enjoy it, research the company and find as much as you can about it, take any opportunities that you can and just enjoy it, its good opportunity.
