Digital Journey Manager Apprentice Review

My role within Prudential is a Digital Journey Manager Apprentice. Some of daily tasks include putting assets through a system called MiRiaM which updates web pages and ensures that these are compliant. I also have a number of pet projects ongoing including the upkeep of the teams holiday chart for 2017 and creating guidelines for the new CMS called AEM. I work closely with the other DJMs and the wider digital team around me.

I have learnt how to interact with others in my team with different backgrounds, needs, etc. I have also attended a training course for the system I will be using frequently called MiRiaM and attended workshops to help build on my existing soft skills as well as developing new skills. I have learnt a lot about various different policies and procedures and how to work in a business environment, coming straight from school.

The team I work in is great, everyone is friendly and are all willing to help me whenever I need it. I felt that the start of the programme was slow and wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it like I expected but 4 months in everything is better and I have a clearer direction for the coming months. The Prudential is a really good company to work for and they look after their employees well. The work I am doing is challenging me and allowing me to expand my knowledge and skills.

My manager is really positive and gives feedback on the work I am doing. He is always helping me to look for ways that I can challenge and improve my skills further. Any feedback I have received from stakeholders is positive which helps me to recognise what I am doing well. Feedback also helps me to highlight anything I need to improve on and work at to make my work better.

The induction was a really good start to my job here. It was informative, interactive and helped to get to know the other apprentices. The training I have received so far has been satisfactory and has allowed me to improve my own knowledge and skills. My manager has been really good with allowing time in work to study and complete my task books to ensure that I don't fall behind. I have a weekly catch up with my mentor who helps me to set realistic objectives for the coming week. On a Friday I meet with my line manager who helps me to review the work I have done and see where I have done well / where I could improve. Although the team has lots of different levels within it, there is no issues with authority.

The support from BPP has got a lot better since the beginning. Ricky is happy to help with whatever he can and provides easy-to-follow feedback for any changes that need to be made.

My manager is a really good at supporting me and my work and is always looking for me to get the very best from this experience. After a few problems came up, my manager has dealt with them in a positive way and says that he will support me in any way he can. He is approachable and I know I can go to him with any issues that I may have and he will help out when possible. My mentor is also a great support as she is the one that supplies me with most of my workload and pushes me to do the very best I can.

My salary meets all costs well. It allows me to run my car, supply myself with food, save for the future with a little left over for any social events.

Since joining the company four months ago I have attended most social events including 2 Christmas nights, a Direct to Customer conference and a Digital Proposition Development 2 day hackathon. I have also volunteered and participated in the local rotary club santa sleigh collection and attended a Dimentia Friends lunch. Because of the office day it still enables me to attend different activities outside of work.

It is a good company to work for with good employee benefits. Everyone is friendly and the location is also good.

Although the process can be a bit long with the different stages it is worth it as it prepares you for starting. Enjoy and participate within the induction week as this will help to make friends and make yourself known to others.
