Group Head Office Finance/Tax Apprentice Review

My role is group head office finance/tax apprentice. I spend a lot of time on consolidating figures and entering data. I also do a lot of comps as it is in my role to make sure these get filed. I spend a lot of time learning from my managers on a day to day basis, trying to take it all in. I do not do much external work however I do have to contact business units from time to time to discuss certain figures. There are a few projects I am involved in as I spend time helping as many members of my team as possible.

I am working towards an AAT level 3 in accountancy. On the job I have learnt several new things from my respective roles. Tax laws are changing all the time and new business means new laws to learn so I feel I have been learning along side the experienced members of my team creating a great experience. I have been to quite a few internal training courses on various topics. Brexit is mentioned a lot and is fascinating to learn about. Sometimes the topics can be too advanced and hard to take in however.

The work is challenging enough to not be boring, and not too challenging to not be possible to do. Bothe teams I work in are great and good fun. The company does a lot of fun events in-between the hard work. It pretty much exactly met my expectations as I expected office work in an office with a lot of learning to do. So far I have enjoyed it as much as a person can enjoy working.

There is always appreciation for the work that I do from my various managers. This makes me feel very valued as an employee. I feel that the work I do is significant and if I weren't there the team would have a hard time trying to do it all alongside their responsibilities. I am involved in most projects as I an lend a hand to most members of the team. My role feels important to provide support where the team needs it.

The induction day was positive and I learned a lot about being a good employee. There is a lot of training to do and I feel I can keep on top of this. My managers provide me with tons of support in any role I am doing. I am provided with time to study each week to help with my qualification. I have regular 1 to 1's with my line manager to catch up and keep on track. I can keep up with the work load and feel I am never overwhelmed.

I am provided with a lot of support as I can contact them with any problems I have and they will reply quickly. Sometimes the process can feel a little slow but they will always reply. It seems they are always happy to help with any problems I have.

My manager has regular 1 to 1's with me to track my progress and make sure I'm heading in the right direction. I have not spoken to HR yet however the number is available to me if I would ever need to. I am allowed time to study each week during work hours. My manager is always happy to help me and seems generally concerned if I have a problem.

I live at home so I can manage however if I were to live alone I do not believe it would be enough. Travel is expensive if you are coming from outside of London. The daily costs are not too bad lunch can be quite cheap. I do not spend much money outside of regular activities but if you went out regularly I believe the money would run out quickly.

There are always events on that allow for new learning experiences in the company. There are volunteering days where the team an do something to give back. I've been to a few sporting events run by the company which have been fun. There are also a lot of social events available for people to go to which are very enjoyable. When I'm not working I spend my time playing video games or music and there are not many opportunities for either of these things within the work team.

It is a very solid route into a career in accounting. If this is the goal I believe this to be better than going to university. It is a great company with a rich history and deep routes in this country.

Try to create work based examples of all skills that you have, if not work based then school based. Research the company when going for an interview it is extremely important. Try to stand out in a way specific to you, if you have higher qualifications show that it makes you more valuable. In the same light if you are more outgoing show that, make sure you show what you have to give to the company. It met my expectations so there isn't much to be want to have been told. It a regular job in my eyes with a lot of added benefits.
