My time so far has been split between college and work based training, at college I have been learning about the different side of water industry, while on site I have been following operators around in there day to day activities, like getting samples, recording site details and general maintenance.
Skill’s I have are the basics of running the day to day of a waste water site, different parts of the water industry and how they work.
I enjoy the program a lot I feel the opportunity at Severn Trent are exciting and the people I have worked with have all been a great. The college lesson I have had are good but I don’t like the college EEF in itself I find that it’s run more like a school than a place of work.
I feel very valued at Severn Trent and that the opportunity given to me are fantastic. My manager has been very supportive and the team have welcomed me. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do in the future.
I feel the organisation to begin with was a bit all over the place with little communication, now I am more pleased that we have a structured time table. I feel at College is more disorganised and often they are not sure what we are meant to do when.
The support I have received from Severn Trent has been very good. The support at EEF has been mixed with some teacher that are better than others, I find the rules at EEF College to be a bit strict and they don’t treat us like adults. Other training we have received has been from Merit skill that has been mixed some trainers better than others, they have a trainer called Stephen Smyth who I have especially have learnt a lot from.
Support from employer has been good, for example giving us a work phone that allows us to receive emails that allows us to communicate with other staff, mangers and HR team. I get a real sense of pushing towards the future with apprentice involved.
For an apprenticeship it is very good pay this is huge bonus for me being an older apprentice it has allowed me the chance of apprenticeship and still pay bills.
Opportunities have been told to me, I haven’t took opportunities yet but look forward to the chance to take them.
Yes
It’s a company that is looking to the future and values new starters, there’s lots of employee bonuses and the work we do is really interesting. I personally feel proud of the work the company does.
Look into the company what work they do and discover more into the range of job roles that you would enjoy.
