I currently work within recruitment and have been in my role for 9 months. I manage the social media strategy for the part of my business and book/attend events for CGI to improve our presence nationwide across a number of sites. I interact with a number of stakeholders both internally (to ensure that we are recruiting according to targets and provide recruitment updates) and externally to book events and supply invoices.
Since being as the company for over 2 years I have significantly improved my business knowledge and key skills such as communication and resilience. Learning whilst studying for a degree has meant that my time management skills are exceptional. I have also been on external training courses to improve skills that I wished to develop such as confidence.
I really love working on my programme and it has given me so many opportunities. Many siblings of people on the programme apply because they recognise the diverse range of opportunities that CGI offers its students. The company culture is very student-centric and the programme has fully met and exceeded my expectations.
I feel very valued by CGI. They would not invest so much in their students if they did not believe that we were worth it and want to develop us. I have won some internal recognition awards which are awarded by other employers which makes you feel valued by those around you.
The programme is very well structured. Whilst we do not do fixed rotations around this business, I prefer this as it gives students the chance to develop their career in the way which they wish. The days at university have good schedules and you have many mentors around you to help you develop.
We are provided with tutors for university and work so that we can apply what we have learnt to the workplace. All of my managers have been passionate about my development and I have always been given opportunities to improve my skills-set. Tutors are genuinely enthusiastic about teaching us key topics.
We receive a lot of support. We have a health and well-being programme which is available if we ever need to talk to anyone confidentially. Additionally, members of the workforce are trained in mental health awareness which provides an extra level of support in case people ever need it.
The salary is good and the jumps between the years on the programme are fair. Even the starting salary is enough to cover my living costs in reading and all travel away from your base office is expensed.
I have been to many events for various awards that CGI have obtained. There is a sports and social club and each year students take part with other members of the company in a 'CGI Euros' tournament.
Yes
It has given me incredible opportunities and I have never regretted going to university full time.
The application process is very relaxed and staff want to see you perform at your best so don't worry! The onboarding process is smooth and social media is used to connect students that will be joining the company.
