Junior technical architect. I have worked on lots of different projects within an account, learning a vast range of new skills that I will be able to use in the future. However, I have been trying to get into more business focused roles instead of technical for a while, but managers have not listened to me.
I have gained some skills in technical areas, however a lot of this I have had to learn myself as other employees expect me to already know a lot more than I do, so always playing catch up.
As I was in the first group of people doing my apprenticeship in my company no one really knew what was going on a lot of the time, however the actual courses were ok. practical exercises were enjoyable however was too much of the tutor just reading from powerpoint presentations.
As is quite a large company sometimes can feel like you are just a number instead of a name. Although most managers try to make you feel valued and give you credit where credit is due.
Programme was very unorganised as we were the first group doing it. I think it has got better for future groups, however this didn't really help us.
Training provider provided quite a lot of support, but a lot of the time it felt like they were just trying to make sure you completed work so it looked good on there numbers.
It seems as though there is a lot of support given from my employer however you have to go out and find it yourself and for people that are sometimes worried about looking for support this can sometimes be a struggle.
salary is about average I would say, however the structure of how this will progress changes all the time and isn't fixed so can be confusing. Benefits seem to be quite good.
Yes there seems to be a lot of opportunities outside of work if that's what you want to do. There is a wide range of activities you can get involved in as part of sports and social club.
Yes
If they had a vast knowledge of the area of the company they were going in to I would recommend however I would not recommend if they were new to the market sector.
Be confident to ask for support if you don't understand anything. Ask what knowledge will actually be needed in the job you will be doing. Aptitude test and team working skills are the mains part of the interview process and there is not many technical questions, so check you will actually be capable of completing the job role as I don't feel like I was.
