My job role is Billing Administrator for the Securities Lending Team. My team are in charge of lending various stocks to multiple banks for a set period of time as a way of generating revenue My role is to reconcile with the banks via email, come to agreements on payment dates and payment amounts, update all the spreadsheets with the different counterparties and the amounts they owe and finally to ensure that all the money we make from our activities in the team go to the correct people. This is done on a daily basis so every day I come into the office and print off the relevant bank statements and then use these statements to update all the spreadsheets which keep a tab of the daily cash made, along with other small checks to ensure that people have received certain things. After updating all the cash sheets I then print off the 6 different daily cash sheets and put them together with their corresponding statements to produce a daily report which my manager then checks to make sure that it all represents a true value of the teams activities on that given day.
I have picked up and developed on a range of skills since stating The M&G Apprenticeship. The apprenticeship at M&G has given excellent exposure to on the job experience. Being put into your job role, learning and gaining experience from your very first day has allowed me to quickly build up a good foundation of knowledge on how the industry works. There has also been a lot of opportunities for me to attend internal and external courses which has helped to extend your knowledge of the financial markets and how they work. Another skill I have developed is my communication skills. Being able to communicate well is key for my role as if I have any queries I go to other departments to have them resolved and by having developed my communication skills I can answer queries in a more timely manner.
The company is such an amazing one to work for. The culture here is second to none! Everyone is so kind and helpful and supportive which has made it very easy not only for me to settle into my role but also for me to complete the programme. Everyone understands that there may be times where you need time off to revise for an exam and are very supportive when it comes to exams.
I feel valued at M&G Investments. There is a huge family feel at the company and the way the company has let me in, I feel like 'one of their own'
The programme is well structured and very oprganised. With my programme I am working towards the IOC certificate which consists of 3 exams.
The apprenticeship scheme at M&G Investments is very organised and well structured. There are regular meetings with your manager to discuss your progress and meetings every two months with your HR contact to discuss any progress. This is really good as if you have any problems or areas you need to work on they can be quickly picked up and raised. Any events that are available to apprentices you are usually made aware of well in advance and these will be sent to you in the form of an invitation in your work calendar. You also have meetings with your Apprenticeship Assessor once a month so that you can track progress on the coursework and exam side of the apprenticeship.
I receive a lot of support from my employer if needs be. There is always time for a chat if there is something wrong or if I have a work related query. Even a catch up on what they have been up to over the weekend for example.
The M&G Salary is very good.
There are plenty of opportunities outside of work. There are frequent corporate events and the apprentices often go out after work.
