Insurance Practitioner Apprentice Review

I am an Insurance Practictioner Apprentice. In my day job I do most of the tasks that Client Service Advisors (CSAs) have to do. This includes: all aspects of renewals, broking,emailing clients/insurers, collating information/spreadsheets, meeting clients, going to conferences and also attending Apprentice workshops. I am currently in the process of applying to be part of the National Engagement society, as well as being a member of the LMA Young Professionals, and NGIN (Next Genereation Insurance Network) So far I have also been involved in Multicultural/Diversity projects, pitched to the CEO and also executed Charity Campaign projects.

I am studying towards my Cert CII, which is an industry wide qualification in Insurance in the hope of achieving my ACII in the not-too-distant future. I attend workshops on this which are provided by an external company (TheSkillsCompany) I have also taken courses internally on all of AOn's valeus and culture, including diversity and our client promise of delivering unmatched performance. In terms of personal skills - confidence,determination,ambition,courage,organisation, teamwork and time-management are just a few of the skills I feel I have developed hugely during my apprenticeship.

I genuinely love my Apprenticeship. I wholeheartedly believe it was the correct decision for me personally. I am suprised more people don't do Apprenticeships as I feel like mine has really kickstarted my career. Aon is a great company to work for, and one in which I feel cared for and included. It cares about its employees and the atmosphere is a wonderful one to work in. The people I am surrounded by want to see me succeed and drive me to be the best I can be.

Very much so. See box above - I have met very senior people and they have always taken the time to be interested in me and give me solid advice.

For the most part, well. We all know how long our Apprenticeship is, what events are coming up etc. However, I do feel that they could do more in the way of getting all the Apprentices together as we haven't really all come together since our induction. Otherwise, all fine.

In terms of study, the workshops are well planned out and organised. Homework is covered well and comprehensively and I know that if I do not understand I can always ask. We also have extra material and online course practice in place to help us too.

My manager is excellent, she always has her head screwed on and is interested and willing to help me at every turn. Likewise with my 'buddy'/mentor, who is excellent and whom I trust.

For an 18 year old, extremely well. I have no quarrels with the wage, although more can never hurt! Joking aside, I have had no problems and it is a very decent wage to begin with at 18.

Loads. I have volunteered several times for things and gone out of my way to get great opportunities. However Aon's culture is one that encourages ambitious people like me to get involved despite how junior we are in the business.

I couldn't recommend Apprenticeships more, speaking for myself,it is fantastic and suits my extroverted, ambitious and confident personality very well - whilst teaching me some excellent lessons. It is such a great career opportunity and one I would highly recommend.

Don't be afraid to be yourself, companies are not looking for an 'ideal' candidate, and you do not have to try and fit the description - Aon is all about diversity and inclusion. Also, be willing to learn and put your hand up for opportunities as they can pay off in really great ways - if you don't ask you don't get! When I applied to Aon, I really did not think I would get the Job, but a little confidence and preparation can go a long way - believe in yourself.
